Phoenix Petroleum Philippines, Inc. is sponsoring the “Phoenix Race for the Hearts that Fuels Life” on March 24, 2010 in Davao City to benefit indigents with heart problems.

The Phoenix Race for the Hearts is organized by the Davao Region Tourism Council (DRTC) led by Ms. Alma L. Uy together with Fer Productions and BBD Consultancy. The contest is a mini-adventure race for pairs – whether friends, siblings, parent-child, sweethearts or married couples – that will start at the Gaisano Mall of Davao.

The contest will raise funds for the Dr. Gerry Cunanan Mindanao Heart Fund, Inc. of the Davao Medical Center in order to help more indigents who wish to avail the facilities of the Mindanao Heart Center. The race is also meant to increase people’s awareness on the Mindanao Heart Center.

The event is a corporate social responsibility program of DRTC and Phoenix Petroleum. The Mountaineering Federation of Southern Mindanao will field racers with the goal of healthy fun and promoting the Mindanao Heart Center and Heart Fund.

The race has five checkpoints or pit stops around the city center. The registration fee of P500 per participant covers meals, race shirt and race kit. Pre-registration is required on March 13, during the orientation at 9 AM at the Department of Trade and Industry Conference Room. Forms can be downloaded from the website http://racefortheheart.org developed by Digilutions. Mr. Jhune Bacus of MFSM is the race director.

On March 22 and 24, a bloodletting activity will be held at the Gaisano Mall of Davao to be facilitated by the Philippine Red Cross Davao Chapter. Other organizations who assisted in both the bloodletting and race are the Jaycees Durian Chapter and UP Alpha Omega Fraternity who will send racers and blood donors from among its members.

Phoenix Race for the Heart is a major event of the Summer Fun in the Sun exhibit held at the Gaisano Mall of Davao on March 22-24. Summer Fun is a tourism exhibit promoting holy week and summer packages spearheaded by the Davao Region Tourism Council and the Department of Tourism with Jonallier Events as exhibit secretariat.
