Phoenix Adopt a Riverbank-Save Davao River Project

Phoenix Petroleum Philippines, Inc. continues its social responsibility to protect the environment through the Phoenix Adopt a Riverbank-Save Davao River Project. On August 29, 2009, a Saturday, the Phoenix team trooped to the El Rio Vista Riverbank to plant trees and release tilapias.

A memorandum of understanding was signed by Phoenix Philippines Foundation Inc. for the adoption of approximately three kilometers of the riverbank. The MOU was signed with Brgy. 19-B, Protect Davao River Movement (PDRM), Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources-XI (BFAR), Solidarity of Multisectoral Group in Davao City (Solid Davao), and Gagmayng Kristohanong Katilingban (GKK).

Team Phoenix then planted 1,000 seedlings. Tree guards will be put up to protect the seedlings. PDRM and other volunteer groups living in the area will oversee and check the seedlings regularly.

After planting trees, Team Phoenix released to the riverbank 10,000 tilapia fingerlings – courtesy of BFAR – as a way of helping local residents with their food supply. The barangay will protect the area from illegal fishing.
